Because of the expected rise of the sea level and the need to create space for man and nature in the over-populated western part of the Netherlands, Royal Haskoning and Van Oord have been studying for a few months the possibilities of large scale Dutch coastal expansion and an airport situated in the North Sea. The airport is planned to have three 6 kilometres large basins with six floating and rotating airstrips. This revolutionary idea would provide maximum access for airplanes regardless of the direction of the wind. There would be three terminal buildings, connected to Schiphol (Amsterdam's international airport) by a 16 minutes long MagLev (magnet levitation train). The airport would be 20 kilometres away from the shore.

The engineers from dutch Royal Haskoning have won the design competition for a 450m bridge in Dubai. Nakheel, the developer, wants them to create a motorway bridge to connect Jebel Ali (Dubai’s largest Palm Island) to the mainland. Two 135m high pylons and 72 stay cables will support the eight lane bridge, that will also have pavements for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge will be 50m wide and will have a free span of 225m.

You probably already heard of Dubai's Rotating Building, but here is another one. You can see that rotation does not have to be necessarily around a vertical axis. Dubai thought it had seen it all, but this proves they didn't. (This is not the Great Wheel that should get built in Dubai Land). The design comes from the dutch Royal Haskoning (who recently also won a bridge design competition in Dubai), which has won a prestigious competition organised by the Great Wheel Corporation for a hotel accommodation.
