Durrat Al Bahrain: is Bahrain imitating Dubai?

Everybody always talks about Dubai (see posts), and its fabulous buildings and artificial islands, but few people talk about Bahrain. And they’ve learned from Dubai the key to success, when you have a lot of petrol money and you don’t know where to invest it. As for Dubai, Bahrain is preparing its country for the post-petroleum period, and they are trying to bring tourists.

To do this, Bahrain is starting to build Durrat Al Bahrain. In their own words:

“It’s a unique place where contrasting lifestyles complement each other. It’s an island and a city, it’s the desert and the sea, it’s a holiday and a home, it’s a place to be together, it’s escapism and adventure. It’s one world that offers you endless possibilities. It is a place like no other.

It is a place where contrasts come together to beautiful effect, and create a world full of richness and unique experiences. It is a place where a lifestyle we aspire to and a holiday we long for become reality. It is a place where the buzz of a world-class city meets the beauty and tranquility of an island.”

The new city will offer its residents, visitors and businesses a contemporary urban lifestyle set across the 15 inter-connected islands that make up Durrat Al Bahrain. “The iconic architecture of the city will be set against the necklace shape of the islands, its waterways, pristine white sand beaches and crystal clear sea. It is a place like no other.”

Don’t forget to check the amazing pictures underneath from what it will soon look like.

So is Bahrain really imitating Dubai? You can check the post about Bahrain’s Financial Harbour to get an idea of how much “copying” is going on.

Of course it’s imitating Dubai! Just look at the images, they’re exactly the same style. But who can blame them for that… if I had that kind of money, I would do the same. Thanks for the information by the way.
