The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world. It measures 3'911 m (12,831 ft), but it's it's central span that beats all records with a lengh of 1,991 metres (6,532 ft). It has 6 lanes of roadway and a clearance below of 65 meters, letting huge ships navigate through the Akashi Strait, who required a 1'500 metres (4,921 ft) wide shipping lane for being an international waterway.
