1km high tower at Nakheel Harbour & Tower!
Dubai developers Nakheel just announced they are going to build a one kilometre high (3,280 feet) tower, the Nakheel Tower, beating the city state’s own world record (with the the yet to be completed Burj Dubai, which reached a height of 688 metres (2,257 feet) last month and is still growing). The tower will be built in a whole new town that will cover 270 hectares.
It is estimated the entire project will cost $95bn, of which $38.12bn will be for the tower alone. Nakheel has already built about $60bn worth of projects in Dubai.
Nakheel Tower will have four individual towers within a single structure, which is very rare.

The construction of the development has already started and will take about 10 years to complete, Nakheel chief executive Chris O’Donnell said. He added that the project will include as many as 40 other towers, will house 55,000 people, create workplace for 45,000 more and attract millions of visitors each year.
The project will include “250,000m2 of hotels and hospitality space, 100,000 m2 of retail space and huge expanses of green spaces including canal walks, parks and landscaping.”
The Nakheel Harbour & Tower development minimises car use and maximises train, bus and water transportation. A complete transportation hub blends into the harbour area with metro transportation combined with a unique water transport interchange, with Abra & Dhow station links.
Dethroned before being built?
Competition for the title of world’s tallest tower is heating up in the Gulf region as real estate developers benefit from a more than four-fold increase in oil prices. The main competition would come from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
According to the London-based Middle East Economic Digest, Kingdom Holding Company, controlled by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, is planning to unveil the designs for a mile-high (1,609 metres) tower in Jeddah this month.
Kuwait has said the Burj Mubarak in its City of Silk development will also be more than 1,000 metres high.

This city will always be under construction. Now I’ll have to wait 10 more years to go there, because I want to see it finished.
I love this city!
